Year Plan

This is our year plan which we have evolved over the years. It is only a guide to what we do each year and is based on a smallish flock

Remember we are in the southern hemisphere and in Tasmania so vaccinations etc will be different depending on where you are.

Feed and separate Rams + wethers

April

Form ewe and ram flocks, joining for September lambing (mid April). Join for 4-6 weeks if want narrow lambing, gestation approx 145 days. Vaccinate 1st time ewes at joining with Eryvac (to prevent bacterial arthritis)

Worm test, drench, Bring ewes together, form ram and wethers flock.

2nd Worm test if required, Bring whole flock together.

Get lambing equipment organised

 

 

Order NLIS ear tags (with V and numbers)

 

 

Rest lambing paddocks

 

 

2-3 weeks prior to lambing vaccinate ewes and rams with “5 in 1” or “eweguard” also vaccinate all ewes with Eryvac (to prevent bacterial arthritis)

 

 

Get supplementary feeding

 

 

Get some hay/straw for lambing pens

5 in 1 vaccinate lambs

 

 

Mark lambs with numbers

 

 

Spray for weeds

Drench lambs and ewes (lambs only when >10kg)

 

 

Vaccinate for OJD with “Gudair” at >1 month but before 16 weeks (vaccination is lifelong)

 

 

Booster 5 in 1 vaccinate for lambs 4-6 weeks after first
